The ADKAR model

Another important model to discuss is Prosci’s ADKAR model for change management.  ADKAR stands for:

    • Awareness of the need for change
    • Desire to participate and support the change
    • Knowledge on how to change
    • Ability to implement required skills and behavior
    • Reinforcement to sustain the change

Typically speaking the ADKAR model is applied by rating specific demographic groups within the organization on a scale for each of the areas listed above (awareness, desire, knowledge, ability and reinforcement). 

Based on the results, you can quickly assess the communication needs of each group and develop an overall strategy for change management.
