Addy Walker is a hopeful 9-year-old girl growing up in slavery
during the Civil War. When her father and brother are sold away
from the plantation, Addy and her mother make the wrenching
decision to escape to freedom on their own. But that means
leaving Addy's baby sister behind - her cries could cost them
their lives. A Seattle Children's Theatre production based on
the popular American Girl book series, this show reminds us of a
powerful truth: freedom sometimes has great costs.
Note: This show is recommended for ages 8 and up.

Ever Wonder What Your Baby is Thinking? Or Why Your Baby is
Crying? Using the BABY SIGNS® Program gives babies a way to
“talk” with their parents before they can talk. Babies can
communicate about the world around them long before they have
mastered their verbal speaking skills! Babies and their
parents can use simple signs to communicate important things –
like being hungry or thirsty, hot or cold, afraid or sad – often
a full year before babies could otherwise speak.

Fitchburg Library Story Time... Hmmm...
I didn't know Fitchburg had a library... Well, they don't...
however... for
the last 2 1/2 years, parent volunteers from the Fitchburg area,
with the support of the Friends of the Fitchburg Library, have
been offering a free story time at the Fitchburg Community
Center on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. They do this weekly
during the school year, and then offer a six-week summer session
the McKee Farms Park Shelter. Their fall session is about to
start up again at the Fitchburg Community Center on Thursday,
Sept. 6th. Each week children 5 and under and their caregivers
hear stories, sing songs with fingerplays and create a craft.
Their goal is to build a community of readers by getting
children hooked on books and demonstrating one way that a
library in our city would be a benefit to the community.

See where your wool sweater first started. Learn how wool, one of
the oldest fibers used by mankind, is produced and harvested. See
the shearing process, an explanation of wool types and colors,
care of wool and how it is transformed into various articles.
Fleeces can be purchased for spinning, crafts and to be made into
custom blankets. Note: all sheep and activities will be inside.
A-Z Farm is a really neat
place. The activities will take place inside the barn, but
it will still be cold in there, so go layered up. We went to
the lambing barn events (when the new baby sheep are born) for the
past three years and it was great! That event takes place in March.

Gardens on February 16 for Olbrich's Children of the Rainforest
series. Enjoy lively rhythms and colorful costumes with dances
from Peru and the ancient Incan Empire. Performances are at
10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The group will perform a Jungle Dance, with musical rhythms
based on carnival games, which originated in the Jungle region
of Peru. Costumes for the Jungle Dance are hand-made in Peru
from natural fibers. Traditional accessories for the costumes
are decorated with bones, seeds, and feathers. Another dance,
the Valicha, is accompanied by joyful music in the ancient Inca
Quechua language. The music was popular in Cuzco, Peru, the
ancient capital of the Incan Empire.
Tickets for Children of the Rainforest are $3 for adults and $2
for children ages 3 to 12. Ages 2 and under are free. Tickets
are available at the door before each performance. After the
performance, take a stroll through Madison's own tropics, the
Bolz Conservatory, and enjoy the smell of fragrant orchids, the
sound of a rushing waterfall, and the sight of the lush, green
foliage of hundreds of tropical plants.
The Children of the Rainforest series celebrates the cultures of
rainforest regions around the world and fosters an attitude of
stewardship toward the natural environment. The series is
sponsored by William Wartmann.

This story of courage, loyalty and one boy’s coming
of age has been celebrated around the world for more
than 50 years. Living on a family ranch in Texas in
the late 1860s, 14-year-old Travis doesn’t want
anything to do with Old Yeller, a mangy one-eared
dog. But when Old Yeller’s heroics help save Travis’
family, a special bond is formed. With an impressive
lifelike puppet as the title character, this Omaha
Theater Company performance of Old Yeller teaches
modern audiences the age-old lessons of love and
responsibility.

words, "Badgers Women's Hockey is a great family event. Very
small crowds, free parking, reasonable admission rates, and
plenty of room for little kiddos to be little kiddos. Note: They
are not stroller friendly. We have a 5y, 3y and 1y old and we
had a great time." With that said, we'll keep you
up-to-date on the UW Women's Hockey schedule from here on out
too. Thanks for the scoop Michael!
