Note: I am including two weeks in this update as I will not be available to make an update next week.  Have a great holiday season!

A family pass is $10 and includes two adult tickets and tickets for all children in the family. At the door, prices will be $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 5 to 15 and $12 for a family pass. The event is free to children under five years old.

U.S. BANK PLAZA 1 South Pinckney 6:00 - 10 p.m.

Start your New Year in the tropics with music by the OD TAPO IMI steel drum trio! From 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. their music will make you feel like you’re on an island get-away! From 6:00 -9:00 p.m. have your face painted in a tropical theme or have the Balloon Guys sculpt a balloon hat or a balloon animal just for you. When you’re ready to return to winter in Wisconsin, enjoy the crisp evening air from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on a hay wagon ride around the Capitol Square. From 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. join Bucky Badger for the kiddie countdown balloon drop, then put your artistic talent to work in the craft room. Make a foam penguin, bendy farm animal, sea life bookmark, or a pocket-sized robot. And don’t miss the final spectacle of the night, the U.S. Bank Eve fireworks! Starting at 10:05, best viewing of this display is from the Square.

WISCONSIN HISTORICAL MUSEUM 30 N. Carroll Street 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

What’s a New Year’s Eve party without a hat? Stop by the Museum to create your personal party hat. All the materials will be on-hand to express your personal style! Special area and assistance will be provided for the little ones.

MONONA TERRACE 1 John Nolen Drive 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Join us at Monona Terrace for a night of magic, music, and bouncing fun. Laugh along with the juggling antics of Truly Remarkable Loon in the Grand Terrace at 6:15 and 7:30 p.m. Sing along with Ken Lonnquist and the Kenland Band in the Lecture Hall. Their music, humor and spontaneity will thrill all ages at 6:45 and 8:00 p.m. Rick Wilcox will amaze you with his Las Vegas-style magic show in the Madison Ballroom at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Then get ready for some boot scooting boogie with a twist! Mix Tex-Mex, country-rock and island music with original songwriting and you get Cris Plata with Extra Hot in the Hall of Ideas from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. If that is not enough scooting around for you, head down to the Lower Lever for the Inflatable Gymnasium. Older kids can race through mazes, jump over walls, squeeze through tubes, and fly down the slide of the colorful 60-foot long inflatable obstacle course. If you do not make the height requirements for the older kid inflatable gymnasium, not a problem! Younger children can bounce on several inflatable bounces as well, including a 12-foot inflatable carousel bounce. Plus, young and old, big and small will enjoy the 2000 square foot Micro Golf Course.

OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS 3330 Atwood Avenue 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.

It’s a grand celebration under one roof! In addition to traditional favorites – the Bolz Conservatory and Holiday Train Display – kids of all ages participate in craft-making, play games and win prizes. Make a peanut butter and pinecone bird feeder, pocket robot, sea life bookmark and decorate a sun visor. Temporary tattoo artists will complete this special party.

HENRY VILAS ZOO 606 S. Randall Avenue 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The Zoo is open all winter, but only one special night! Enter the Zoo at the Main Gate, just off the parking lots by Drake St. & Randall Ave. Visit the primates before heading to the Visitor Center, where you’ll meet some animals up close. A short walk away is the steamy Tropical Rainforest Aviary. Soak up the warmth and hear the sounds of the waterfall where lush plants thrive and exotic birds flutter close-by. The penguins and polar bears may be up for evening swim as you warm your toes by the fire pit. The Discovery Center, the Zoo’s learning place, is sure to inspire curiosities about nature. This year, top off your visit, with a spin on the beautiful Conservation Carousel.

UW SPACE PLACE 2300 S. Park Street 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.

Explore the Mysteries of Science and the Wonders of Physics demonstrated by UW staff. Exchange New Year’s greetings with people across the world on a ham radio or make your own alien mask. http://www.treerex.com/

Ride the horse drawn wagon in search of the perfect tree. Then warm up in the new Gift Shop and enjoy a free cup of hot apple cider while the kids visit with Santa. Or just spend the day wandering the many trails through the woods and around the ponds.

Editorial Note:  We went to Miller's to get our tree this year.  It was over an hour away but well worth the trip.  The horse drawn wagon was run by the owner of Treinan Farms-- nice guy.  Some of the bigger tree farms closer to town are a bit picked over.  Miller's had many great choices, and best of all (for me), the Miller's pick up your tree and drag it back to the barn for you!  Oh, and don't forget to stop in and visit Santa while you are there.

Handmade balsam, fraser & flocked wreaths - 15", 24", 36", 48", 60", crosses & candy canes. Prices range from $10 - $55. Custom decorated wreaths also available.
10 varieties of trees: Fraser, Balsam, Douglas & Concolor Fir; Scotch, White & Red Pine; Blue, White & Serbian Spruce
