December 23 - December 30
It's hard to believe the holidays are upon us!  The weather is looking warmer, but no worries, the snow is here for the long run!  Before we get started on our current events, I wanted to give you the scoop on our next installment of the Understanding Autism discussion that our family is sponsoring...

UNDERSTANDING AUTISM

A Dialogue for individuals, families, and the community to increase understanding about

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
28-January 2006 - 6:30pm

Virtually everyone in our community is somehow connected to Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Through a classmate, a family member, friend, or neighbor most of us know at least one individual living "on the spectrum".  The January session will be facilitated by Brian Holmquist.  Brian is an occupational therapist practicing in the Madison area.  He will discuss the sensory and occupational therapy needs of children on the autism spectrum.  More Info...

Happy Bambino
2045 Atwood Avenue Suite 113, Madison, WI 53704, 608-204-6147
http://www.happybambino.com/page.asp?pgid=150007

New sessions start in January.  Click on the link above for class options.

Why Happy Bambino? (From the Happy Bambino Website)

"Parenting is one of the most important jobs there is. The way children are raised shapes the next generation of our society. Joyful parenting requires education, support, and community. As mothers, we were struck by the challenges involved in locating the resources and products that we needed and wanted – this sparked the seeds of Happy Bambino.

Every parent has topics they would like more information about – subjects might include knowledge of basic baby care, use of specific products, assistance with breastfeeding, or discipline issues. Parents have the need for trusted sources of information, adult interaction, and supportive community - when these needs are met, the parent-child relationship can be stronger. Babies and children have the need to feel secure and to have strong bonds with their caregivers; the whole family is happier when children feel secure.

We envisioned the creation of a center that would bring together the resources, products, and support that parents and children need from pre-conception, through birth, and beyond. We pulled from our experiences, our resources, and the support and collaboration of many parent-child advocates, educators, and professionals in the community to make Happy Bambino a reality. We hope you enjoy Happy Bambino’s store and resource center!”

- Alison Dodge and Lea Wolf, Co-founders

The evolution of culture is ultimately determined by the amount of
love, understanding and freedom experienced by its children...

www.middletonchamber.com
Gather the family and join the Middleton Chamber of Commerce on Sunday, December 4, 2005, for its 28th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.  The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 7426 Hubbard Avenue in Middleton.  Each year the community looks forward to this great family event.  Join the St. Bernard Children’s Choir as they bring sounds of the holiday spirit to the street, followed by a visit from Santa.  Goodies such as coloring books and crayons, cider, cookies and other such gifts are distributed to the hundreds of children who attend, thanks to the many Chamber members who help sponsor this event.

In the spirit of the giving season and in an effort to fill our local food pantry, Middleton Outreach Ministry (M.O.M.), the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, Madison West, featuring Madison’s only indoor water park, has graciously donated an “Ultimate Family Night of Fun” package.  For each non-perishable item, clothing or toy the community brings to donate to M.O.M.’s food pantry; they will be entered in the drawing for this “ultimate” package!  Items may be dropped off at the Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 4.  The drawing will be held at the event.  For more information please call the Middleton Chamber of Commerce at 827-5797 or visit www.middletonchamber.com.

http://www.veronawi.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=1

On Friday December 2, join Santa, Mayor John Volker, WISC-TV’s Chief Weatherman Gary Cannalte, a contingent of elves and others to kick-off the holiday season with the lighting of Verona’s holiday tree at Central Park. Terri Kiss-Frank will also be at the ceremony, leading the crowd in singing songs of the season.

Santa will arrive at 6:00 p.m. on one of the Fitch-Rona Fire Department’s trucks with the siren cranked up to announce the arrival of the jolly old man.  The tree, along with all the street decorations, will be lit at approximately 6:25 p.m. to the cheers of the folks gathered to witness the event.  Everyone, led by Santa, will then walk over to the Senior Center for games, face painting and the chance to sit on Santa’s lap. The Fire Department will be serving their traditional Five-alarm Chili supper.

On Saturday December 3, have breakfast with Santa from 8:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the Independent Bank of Verona.  From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., enjoy a trolley ride through and to businesses in Verona’s downtown. Along the way on the trolley, test your knowledge of Verona by answering fun and factual trivia questions about Verona supplied by Verona’s unofficial historian, Karl Curtis. Get on and off the trolley at key stops at key downtown locations.
